⚡ Quick answer
Wix saves you the starting fee. It doesn't save you time, and for a business owner, time is usually the more expensive thing:
If you're still testing an idea or truly have zero budget, Wix is a fair starting point. If you're already running the business, those 20–40 hours are usually worth more than the monthly fee you'd save.
Almost every week, someone messages me and, right after asking about price, follows up with: "actually... can't I just do this myself on Wix?" It's a completely fair question. So instead of giving you a sales pitch, let me just show you the real math. What DIY actually costs, what hiring actually costs, and how to tell which one is you.
Wix isn't a bad tool. It's just being asked to do a job, your job, that most business owners don't actually have spare hours for.
01Almost every client asks me this
And it makes sense why. Wix's own homepage says "get started for free". Every ad promises a website "in minutes". So the question underneath the question is really: "why would I pay someone RM590 for something that looks free?"
Here's the thing that ad never shows you: the template is free (or close to it). Your time to turn that template into an actual working website for your actual business. That part is never free. Let's put a number on it.
02The real cost of DIY: time + a monthly fee + no one to ask
Three costs stack up, and only one of them is money:
- 20–40 hours of your own time. Picking a template, rewriting the placeholder copy, resizing images, checking how it looks on mobile, then doing it again because it broke. That's hours you're not spending with customers.
- RM 50–150 a month, forever. Not a one-time fee: a subscription. As long as the site is live, it keeps charging. Over a year or two, this can add up to more than a done-for-you page would've cost.
- No one to ask when you're stuck. Layout breaks on your phone, a button doesn't work, you can't figure out how to add a WhatsApp link. It's you and a search engine at 11pm.
None of this makes Wix "bad". It makes Wix a tool that hands the job back to you. Whether that's a good trade depends entirely on whether you have 20–40 spare hours lying around, most business owners I talk to don't.
03So what does hiring actually pay for? "Not having to do it yourself"
A done-for-you single-page landing site starts at RM590, delivered in 3–7 days. That fee isn't paying for a template. You could get a template for free. It's paying for three things Wix can't give you:
- Your 20–40 hours back. Spend them serving customers instead, for most businesses, that's worth more than RM590.
- A one-time cost instead of a subscription. RM590 once, not RM50–150 every single month for as long as the site exists.
- Someone to message when something's wrong. Stuck, or want a section changed? It's a WhatsApp message, usually answered same-day, not a solo troubleshooting session.
And the finished site is yours: an asset you own, not something you rent. No compulsory monthly fee; only domain and hosting are billed separately, at their real (small) cost. I laid out the full price ladder, including where a 5-page site or Shopify store fits, in the pricing post.

💬 WhatsApp us →04So when is Wix actually the right choice?
Fair is fair: Wix genuinely is the right call in some situations:
- You're still testing an idea. Haven't decided if this business is even a real thing yet? Don't spend RM590 to find out: a free Wix draft is enough to test the water.
- Your budget genuinely can't stretch to RM590 right now. That's real, and Wix is a legitimate starting point until it can.
If either of those is you, go build on Wix. I mean it. Come back when you're ready to trade a subscription and your own hours for a one-time cost and someone else's.
053 questions to help you decide
- Are you testing an idea, or already running a business? Still testing → Wix is fine. Already taking orders → your time is worth more than the monthly fee.
- Those 20–40 hours, spent serving more customers: would that beat the monthly fee you'd save? If yes, hiring wins on pure math.
- When you get stuck, is there someone to ask, or just you and Google? If you'd rather send one WhatsApp message than debug it alone at midnight, that's your answer too.
Once you're ready to hire, I've also written up exactly what that process looks like, from the first message to launch, in this post, so there's no mystery there either.
The whole thing, in one line
This was never about Wix being good or bad. It's about knowing exactly what you're trading (time for money, or money for time) before you pick one.
